Laboratory members perform research in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, information integration and semantic web, as well as bioinformatics applications, social informatics and related areas.

We are studying

Computer vision - Computer vision themes include active approaches to medical image analysis, face recognition and image-based modeling and rendering.
machine learning - Research on machine learning focuses on logical and statistical approaches.
biomedical informatics - Current topics include the design and analysis of new knowledge transfer algorithms. These algorithms are applied to the problems of bioinformatics, to the recovery and extraction of information and to the design of adaptive agents.

Artificial intelligence and data science are useful in this context for:
the collection of information, in order to combine different, perhaps unconventional data sources;
create insights for decision making; compensating for the lack of human experts, for example in the diagnosis of diseases;
choose how to allocate resources or increase system efficiency.
